Experimental music is the rebellious teenager of music. Experimental music composers rarely use conventional instruments. Experimental music instruments are tweaked to produce different sounds, or the composers come up with altogether new ways of playing an instrument. Some will even invent new instruments which create unique sounds, or are ‘hybrids’ that combine different musical instruments. You’ll hear a lot of other sounds in experimental music that are not traditionally regarded as ‘music’. Cats meowing, plates breaking, high-heels on a laminate floor, water dripping, can all be part of this form of music. Experimental music is a form of art that allows a lot of leeway, and basically has no rules. |
