India’s diversity means that the culture of every region differs dramatically. And the same goes for its music. Regional Indian music has infiltrated mainstream commercial music in a big way. You’ll find strains of Rajasthani folk music in Indian pop songs, and stars shaking a leg to garba. Indian music is so popular and melodious that Hollywood and western music have been inspired by and are celebrating Indian music, what with Sting doing duets with sitar-payer Anoushka Shankar, Raghav topping the charts, and A.R.Rahman winning international awards that any musician would die for. Even the connoisseurs will have to agree - Indian music has come a long way, and it can only get better. |
